Garbe Industrial Real Estate UK Acquires Logistics Development Site Near Liverpool
News 11/06/2025
Skelmersdale/Hamburg, 11 June 2025 – Garbe Industrial Real Estate UK intensifies its commitment in the United Kingdom. The real estate company acquired a site of nearly 49,000 square metres in Skelmersdale, a town located north-east of Liverpool. It is earmarked for the development of a logistics centre with a total floor area of approximately 23,000 square metres.
Decisive for the property purchase was primarily the conveniently accessed location. The site lies within sight of the M58 motorway while the motorway entrance slip road is practically next door. A few minutes of driving will take you to Junction 26 of the M6, one of the most important motorways in north-west England. “Logistics facilities in this size bracket are in extremely short supply in the Liverpool Manchester, Birmingham triangle. It was very reassuring for us that we managed to secure this prime property,” emphasises Chris Hornung, Country Head and Managing Director of Garbe Industrial Real Estate UK. “The acquisition of the Skelmersdale site fits perfectly with our ambition of buying sites in undersupplied markets.”
The planned new-build asset will have around 22,000 square metres of warehouse space and about 1,000 square metres of office space. The property will be equipped with 18 dock levellers and three overhead sectional doors on the ground level for the loading and unloading of HGV. The plans also include surface parking for 189 cars and 27 HGV on the surrounding grounds plus an initial 20 EV charging stations. Photovoltaic roof panels will be installed on top of the building to produce regenerative energy. Full planning consent for this site has already been secured. To ensure that the property meets the highest sustainability standards, Garbe Industrial Real Estate will seek BREEAM Excellent certification, the British label for sustainable construction, plus an EPC A energy efficiency rating.
The real estate company Garbe Industrial takes a long-term approach to this development that considers the needs of both present and future tenants. “The warehouse height of 15 metres and the power supply capacity of 1.5 megavolt amperes make this unit attractive not just for logistics and e-commerce companies but also for light manufacturing companies with high electricity needs,” says Chris Hornung.
This is Garbe UK’s second major logistics investment following its UK market entry in August 2024 with the acquisition of Worksop Link − a two-unit development totalling around 43,000 square metres and around 8,000 square metres, set for practical completion in August 2025.
